CGI have been involved with factory and facilities projects for over 20 years and our experience is very extensive. Due to the complexity of the modern factory, layouts have fundamentally changed to accommodate the new processes and procedures. The key to efficiency in the manufacturing environment is still the processing times for individual operations and the smallest of logistical movements between these and subsequent assembly processes.

At the planning stage of the major sub-facilities it is necessary to cater for minor problems that may disrupt production by planning for buffer areas and duplicate standby systems which can come on-stream to support any failures.

Due to CGIs extensive experience with assisting their clients with factory and facilities projects, it is ideally placed to work with local architects and civil engineers to accelerate the planning, building and construction of new plants. CGI has developed certain Generic Facility Templates which means that the level of understanding from their customers can be improved and it allows for the high level consumption rates for electricity, gas, water, special services, air etc. to be specified to assess investment values.

CGIs Generic Facility Template can also act as a double-check for local resources and to give guidance for plant and machinery layouts and services, together with equipment specifications from known sources which will reduce procurement times.

CGI are also in a good position with regard to the Second User market for specialist plant and equipment. This means that if a customer requires a specific solution, CGI can often obtain equipment that they can re-program/re-configure at a large discount to new equipment, often also saving valuable time.

CGI is familiar with the large global OEMs and their current product life cycles. The relationships that CGI have built up means that when facilities are removed, we are in a good position to discuss future use, either as a direct purchase or in conjunction with a licensing arrangement.

When undertaking vehicle projects it is very important to achieve the maximum visual impact of changes whilst retaining the maximum carry over content which will keep costs as low as possible.

For the developing markets, where there is no history of previous successful products it is important to acquire, wherever possible, some of the strategic building blocks to accelerate development. It is in this arena that the requirements for Powertrains, Platforms and a Generic Parts Bin come forward.

Due to the ever changing major OEM product life cycles, CGI are often able to broker deals that are mutually beneficial to all parties and will assist the transfer of valuable IPR to extend its life.
